Thomas Thiede (*1967) studied Art History, Philosophy and Theatre Studies at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Also he studied Restoration/Conservation at the Art Academy of Dresden. Last, but not least he studied Painting at the Art Academy of Düsseldorf. He currently lives and works in Munich and Hamburg.

He was invited for artist residency programs in Leipzig, Bristol and Helsinki. His practice and projects have been supported with grants and fellowships by several institutions for example the State of Bavaria, City of Munich, Goethe Institut (Bratislava, Shanghai, Helsinki), Federkiel Foundation, Hypo-Cultural Foundation, IFA-Institut for Foreign Relations.

Thiede´s work is focused on two key aspects. The first field of activity is drawings and drawing based installations. Some of these space related drawing installations are site specific and are also named after their appearance. The second field of activity is an international artist exchange project called Collaboration, which he launched in 2008. Since then, the project has had 10 stations, for instance in Great Britain, Serbia, Iceland, Slovakia and China.
